Natural fibers and chemical fibers can be distinguished by their sources, components, and properties, with significant differences in performance:

Natural fibers are derived from natural plants and animals, divided into plant fibers (cotton, hemp, bamboo fiber, etc.) and animal fibers (wool, silk, down, etc.).  

- Plant fibers: Cotton has strong hygroscopicity, good breathability and comfort, making it suitable for close-fitting clothing, but it is prone to wrinkling and shrinking; Hemp has high strength, good heat dissipation, is crisp and wear-resistant, but feels relatively hard.  

- Animal fibers: Wool has excellent warmth retention, good elasticity, and natural crimp, but is prone to felting and moth damage; Silk has a soft luster, is light and smooth, and has strong skin-friendliness, but has low strength and poor light resistance.  

Chemical fibers are artificially synthesized from chemical raw materials, divided into regenerated fibers (viscose, modal, tencel, etc.) and synthetic fibers (polyester, nylon, acrylic, etc.).  

- Regenerated fibers: Mostly made from natural polymers (such as wood, sugarcane bagasse), they combine the hygroscopicity of natural fibers and the crispness of chemical fibers. For example, modal is soft and breathable, and tencel has better wrinkle resistance than cotton.  

- Synthetic fibers: Polyester has high strength, good wrinkle resistance and wear resistance, but poor hygroscopicity and is prone to pilling; Nylon has good elasticity and wear resistance, often used in socks and sportswear; Acrylic has warmth retention close to wool, is light and washable, and is known as "artificial wool".  

A simple identification method: the burning test. Natural fibers burn into ashes with the smell of plants or hair; Synthetic fibers melt and shrink when burned, with a pungent odor, and the ashes are hard and brittle. The combination of the two (such as cotton-polyester blends) can complement each other's advantages and disadvantages to meet diverse needs.
